Kia: previous owners, selling, and privacy settings

Last checked: 28 Sep 2026

Kia's connected services: Kia App, Kia Connect (formerly UVO). Kia says a previous owner who didn't disconnect can keep tracking the car; reset Kia Connect. Sellers need to deactivate it, not just factory-reset.

Kia's UK FAQ acknowledges that a previous owner who doesn't disconnect can keep tracking the car, and says to reset Kia Connect. Only one account can hold a car's VIN; once you're the main user, you can use any remaining free term.

Kia's terms say the seller must deactivate and delete. They warn that a head-unit factory reset alone does not deactivate Kia Connect.

Kia's UK FAQ says a factory reset does deactivate it, which contradicts the terms and privacy notice; doing both is the safe choice. The general system reset is SETUP → General → Default.

Remove the car's VIN in the app, and delete your Kia Account separately (Kia Account portal → Manage Account → Delete your account).
