Honda's connected services: My Honda+ app. Sellers remove the car from the Garage in My Honda+ and do a factory reset in the car. A buyer who enrols the car in their own account takes it over from the seller's.
Bought it used: remove the previous owner
- Enrol the car in your own accountBuyer, in the app
My Honda+ app → Add your vehicle → Pair with your Honda → Enter your VINHonda's UK terms say a new owner may be able to carry out a new Confirmation of Ownership, which automatically removes the car from the previous owner's Garage and moves it into yours. Honda's FAQ says subscriptions can't be transferred, so you subscribe again.
You confirm ownership with a PIN shown in the car (valid for 10 minutes). Honda's set-up guide says the previous owner's remote lock and Digital Key are revoked when a new owner takes over a car the previous owner didn't disconnect.
- Factory Data Reset2026 models
Home button → General Settings → System → Factory Data Reset → Continue → ContinueHonda's UK handbooks say this resets all settings to their defaults, and to do it when the car passes to someone else so personal data is deleted. The system reboots.
From the 2026 UK handbooks for the HR-V, CR-V, ZR-V, Civic and Jazz e:HEV and the Prelude. Vehicle settings reset separately: Vehicle Settings → Default → Yes.
Selling: unlink and wipe
- Remove the car from your GarageIn the app
My Honda+ app → Garage (car icon)Honda's UK FAQ says to remove the car from the Garage when you sell it. This cancels your subscriptions, returns the car to emergency-call-only mode and deletes your data from the car's connected services.
Honda's terms say removing the car from the Garage is enough; you don't have to delete your whole profile. The car needs signal and enough battery charge for the removal to reach it. You can't add the same car back to the same profile.
- Factory Data Reset2026 models
Home button → General Settings → System → Factory Data Reset → Continue → ContinueHonda's terms say sellers must also factory reset the display audio unit. The handbooks say this resets all settings and deletes personal data before the car passes to someone else.
From the 2026 UK handbooks (HR-V, CR-V, ZR-V, Civic, Jazz e:HEV and Prelude).
Privacy and offline settings
- Location and vehicle data sharing2026 models
Home button → General Settings → System → Location and vehicle data sharingHonda's handbook says OFF makes data communication unavailable. Honda's FAQ says remote functions, car locator, geo-fence, journey history and roadside assistance support then stop working.
Honda's privacy notice says switching off data sharing stops the collection of all data, except what the mobile network provider handles for the car's SIM.
- Data SyncIn the app
My Honda+ app → Vehicle dashboard → Data SyncHonda's FAQ says turning Data Sync off stops data being sent for all Honda connected services for the car, except the in-car Wi-Fi hotspot. It's off by default but switches on when you subscribe to packages that need it.
To turn it back on, the car must run for 15–20 minutes with good signal. Paid subscriptions keep counting down while it's off.
Good to know
- Honda asks you to confirm you still own the car about every 6 months. If you don't, connected services are suspended after 14 days.
- Honda's FAQ says journey history is deleted automatically every 90 days and can't be deleted in the app.
Not found in Honda's public UK documents: The name of the remove button in the Garage, reset paths for Honda models before 2026 (including the Honda e), and older cars with the My Honda dongle. Menu paths can differ by model and software version; each one here is for the version its source names.
