CUPRA: previous owners, selling, and privacy settings
Last checked: 19 Oct 2026
CUPRA's connected services: My CUPRA app, CUPRA CONNECT. A buyer can remove the previous primary user by becoming primary user with both keys (Formentor, Terramar) or by restoring factory settings (Born, Tavascan). Sellers restore factory settings to unlink their CUPRA ID.
Bought it used: remove the previous owner
- Become primary userFormentor, Terramar (2026 manuals)
Users → Settings → Become primary userCUPRA's UK manual says that on a used car the previous primary user may still see data and control some functions. Registering as primary user removes them automatically. You prove ownership by pressing unlock on both keys.
The manual's alternatives are restoring factory settings or setting maximum privacy. This can't be done in the My CUPRA app.
- Remove the previous primary userBorn, Tavascan
Restore factory settingsCUPRA's UK manual says to reset the infotainment system to factory settings to remove the previous primary user, then register as primary user.
CUPRA's FAQ for the Born says that when you add the car's VIN in the My CUPRA app you're told you can change the primary user, and the previous owner is emailed. The CONNECT contract stays with the car.
Selling: unlink and wipe
- Delete user / Restore factory settingsBorn
Infotainment menu → User → Delete user/Restore to Factory settingsCUPRA's UK FAQ says this deletes your data from the car and from CUPRA's servers and is required when ownership changes. Your CUPRA ID isn't deleted, only unpaired from the car.
From Release 4.3.0 you can also do it in the My CUPRA app (Garage section). The same FAQ also gives Menu → Setup → Factory Settings. CUPRA's manual warns that a reset done in offline mode doesn't delete the user on the server. Delete any digital keys too.
- Restore factory settingsFormentor, Terramar (2026 manuals)
System settings → Restore factory settingsCUPRA's UK manual recommends resetting the infotainment system to factory settings to delete all personal data before you sell. Restoring factory settings is how the main user is deleted.
Don't do it in offline mode: the manual says the user then isn't deleted on the server. On older Ateca, Leon and Formentor cars with MIB3, CUPRA's FAQ gives Menu → Setup → Factory Settings, or the reset in the CUPRA CONNECT app.
Privacy and offline settings
- Privacy modeFormentor, Terramar (2026 manuals)
Users → Settings → Privacy and ServicesCUPRA's UK manual lists four levels: Tracking (you can see the car's position in the app), Location, Personal (no location) and Privacy (services off; only legally required services use data). Individual services can also be switched off.
Emergency calling (eCall) can't be turned off. Every user can set their own level.
- Online or offline modeBorn
Control centre (globe icon) → Online / Online with location data / OfflineCUPRA's UK FAQ says Offline mode turns off every service except legally required ones such as emergency calls. Online mode shares account and vehicle data but not the car's position.
Also on the welcome screen and in Settings. The manual says Offline mode switches off the built-in modem, so online updates stop.
Good to know
- CUPRA CONNECT services are tied to the car, not to you, so a buyer can use what's left of the contract.
- CUPRA's connected services are provided by SEAT, S.A. in Spain under shared SEAT/CUPRA terms, which also say to remove the car from your account in the app when you sell.
Not found in CUPRA's public UK documents: How to remove the car from your account in the My CUPRA app (the terms require it but don't say how), which model years use which system, and in-car paths for the Ateca and Leon. Menu paths can differ by model and software version; each one here is for the version its source names.
