LG UR78 (2023)
Built-in far-field microphone
No TV micThis model has no built-in far-field microphone — voice control goes through the remote.
LG's product information sheets for all six UR78 sizes say "Voice recognition sensor available: No". LG's UK pages say the set comes with a standard remote and list voice recognition and the Magic Remote as "Ready", meaning the Magic Remote is sold separately.
Automatic content recognition (ACR), including over HDMI
Has ACRThis model has LG's ACR feature (branded "Live Plus"), which analyzes on-screen content — including over HDMI — to identify what's playing.
What ACR is and how to turn it off →
LG's 12 Sep 2026 statement covers LG smart TVs in general, not this model. It says ACR is off by default and runs only once you accept the Viewing Information Agreement.
Ads in the TV's own menus
Can turn offwebOS shows ads in its own menus. There are settings to turn them off, listed below.
LG's manual describes advertisements on the Home screen and a switch to turn them on or off.
Scans your local network for other devices
Scans LANLG says this TV looks for compatible devices on your home network, for features like connecting to them, and doesn't describe a setting that turns this off. To keep it away from your other devices, you can put the TV on a separate guest network.
How to put a TV on its own network →
LG says its smart TVs use device discovery to find compatible devices on your home network, such as set-top boxes, games consoles and smart home devices, and that this information isn't used for advertising (statement, 12 Sep 2026). LG doesn't describe a setting that turns it off. A 2026 Gamers Nexus test on an LG G3 found the TV repeatedly contacting other devices on the network even with no agreements accepted. Whether the list of devices is sent to LG hasn't been shown publicly.
Security vulnerabilities in webOS
SupportedThis model is still receiving firmware/platform updates.
What that actually means for your TV →
LG's UK pages for all six sizes say security updates are supported until 31 December 2027. LG's product information sheets separately promise software and firmware updates for at least 8 years after the model stops being sold.
ACR settings: webOS 23
- Live Plus
Settings → All Settings → General → System → Additional Settings → Live PlusTurn it off to stop Live Plus (LG's ACR feature).
LG's manual site has a broken HTTPS certificate, so the link uses plain HTTP.
- Viewing Information agreement
Settings → All Settings → Support → Privacy & Terms → User AgreementsUntick Viewing Information to withdraw the consent that ACR needs. LG says ACR only runs once this agreement is accepted.
LG's manuals give the User Agreements location. LG's published agreements name it "ACR and Viewing Information Agreement" in the US and "Viewing Information Agreement" in the UK; LG says only the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy are required for smart services, so leave those two alone.
Agreements and toggles can be reset by a software update, so check again after your TV updates.
Ad settings: webOS 23
- Home PromotionTurns these ads off
Settings → All Settings → General → System → Additional Settings → Home Settings → Home PromotionTurns off the advertisements on the Home screen.
LG's manual is hosted on a site with a broken HTTPS certificate, so the link uses plain HTTP. If your TV has been updated to a newer webOS version, its menus may follow that version's layout instead.
- Content RecommendationRelated setting
Settings → All Settings → General → System → Additional Settings → Home Settings → Content RecommendationTurns off content recommendations on the Home screen.
- Limit AD TrackingAds continue, less personalised
Settings → All Settings → General → System → Additional Settings → Advertisement → Limit AD TrackingAds based on your interests may no longer be shown. Ads themselves continue.
The same screen has Reset AD ID.
These settings cover ads in the TV's own menus, not ads inside individual apps. Menus can change with software updates, so check again after your TV updates.
