Toshiba M550 Series (hands-free Alexa)

Sizes: 55, 65, 75″

Built-in far-field microphone

Has mic

This model has a built-in far-field microphone, which is the hardware hands-free voice control uses.

What a far-field mic does →

AFTVnews' report on this model's launch describes "an array of 4 microphones, a physical mute switch, and multi-color LED indicator lights along the bottom center" built into the television, allowing hands-free "Alexa" commands from across the room without touching a remote. Best Buy's own retail listing for this exact model is titled "...with hands free Alexa," matching the same claim. Unlike the ambiguous "hands-free" marketing this site found on some other brands' Fire TV models — which can describe pairing with a separate Amazon Echo speaker rather than TV-side hardware — this reporting is specific about a physical microphone array in the TV chassis itself.

Automatic content recognition (ACR), including over HDMI

Runs ACR

This model runs Toshiba's ACR feature (branded "Automatic Content Recognition"), which analyzes on-screen content — including over HDMI — to identify what's playing.

What ACR is and how to turn it off →

This model runs Fire TV, and Amazon's own official Automatic Content Recognition help page — not Toshiba's — describes the feature directly: when enabled, it fingerprints content "through connected devices, such as a cable set-top-box" (not just Amazon's own apps) by sampling audio or pixels and matching against a database, and can be managed at Settings → Preferences → Privacy Settings → Automatic Content Recognition. Amazon's page doesn't state whether it's on by default. Enabling it on one Fire TV device doesn't enable it on others.

Security vulnerabilities in Fire TV

Unverified

Firmware support status hasn't been confirmed for this model from a citable source yet.

What that actually means for your TV →

No dated Toshiba or Amazon firmware record or minimum software-support term for this specific model could be found, unlike Samsung's public seven-year Tizen commitment. Stays unverified rather than assumed either way.
