Built-in far-field microphone

Unverified

Whether this model has a built-in microphone (beyond the remote) hasn't been confirmed from a citable source yet.

What a far-field mic does →

Sony doesn't publish a specification page for the KDL-40, 48 or 60W600B, and its manuals for them couldn't be opened. Sony Canada lists the supplied remote as the RM-YD103 but doesn't describe it.

Security vulnerabilities in Sony Smart TV (non-Android)

Unsupported

This model is no longer receiving platform-version updates.

What that actually means for your TV →

Sony Canada says software updates for these older TVs "have ended and are no longer available for download". It gives PKG3.008 as the last version for the KDL-40W600B and KDL-48W600B, without a date. The KDL-60W600B isn't in its table and has no downloads.

Automatic content recognition (ACR), including over HDMI

Has ACR

This model has Sony's ACR feature (branded "Samba Interactive TV"), which analyses on-screen content — including over HDMI — to identify what's playing.

What ACR is and how to turn it off →

Sony's US and Canadian Samba TV article lists the KDL-40W600B and KDL-48W600B among the TVs that have Samba Interactive TV, a service run by Samba TV (not Sony) that recognises what's on screen from the TV's tuner and from devices connected by HDMI, but not from apps on the TV. It's off unless you agree to Samba TV's terms during set-up or later. Sony says you can turn it off at any time in System Preferences > Samba Interactive TV, and that the location may differ on your model. The KDL-60W600B isn't on Sony's list. Checked 23 Oct 2026.
