Opt out of US marketing data brokers
Last checked: 28 Sep 2026; links rechecked 12 Oct 2026
Marketing data companies hold consumer profiles that businesses use for mailing and advertising. Each has its own opt-out, mostly framed around US state privacy laws. Here are the main ones, with what each asks for.
| Company | How | What it asks for | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Acxiom | Web form from its opt-out page, phone (877) 774-2094, or post to Acxiom LLC, Consumer Care Advocate, CWY0301-026, P.O. Box 2000, Conway, AR 72033 | A valid email address, to confirm by email. Offered nationwide. | Within two weeks of confirming. Data already provided to marketers isn't recalled. |
| Epsilon | Request portal or phone (866) 267-3861 | Email-link verification for deletion. Honours Global Privacy Control in applicable states. | Epsilon reports a median of 10 days for deletion requests. |
| LiveRamp | Forms on its privacy choices page, or phone (844) 678-0045 | To opt out: first and last name and email. To access or delete: photo ID, proof of residency in a regulated state, and a selfie. | Within 15 days for opt-outs. |
| Experian (marketing) | consumerprivacy.experian.com, phone 1-833-210-4615, [email protected], or PO Box 703, Allen, TX 75013 | Experian says opt-out and limit requests don't require verification. | Not stated. |
| Equifax (including IXI marketing data) | Its My Privacy page or phone 1-866-295-6801 | Personal details. Free. | Up to 45 days for some requests. |
| TransUnion | Its consumer privacy page: a Service Center account, a one-time form without an account, or phone 866-310-8783 | Identity verification by phone. Credit-report data can't be deleted this way. | Not stated. |
Oracle Advertising, once one of the larger marketing data businesses, closed all its advertising products on 30 September 2024, so there's nothing to opt out of there.
Pre-approved credit and insurance offers
- How: OptOutPrescreen.com or 1-888-5-OPT-OUT (1-888-567-8688), run by the major credit bureaus.
- Options: opt out for five years, or permanently by signing and returning the Permanent Opt-Out Election form.
- Timing: the FTC says requests are processed within five days, but it may take several weeks for the offers to stop.
- Good to know: the FTC says opting out has no effect on your ability to apply for or get credit or insurance. It only stops offers based on the credit bureaus' lists.
Prospect mail: DMAchoice
DMAchoice reduces "prospect mail" from companies you don't deal with. It doesn't stop all promotional mail. Registration lasts 10 years and costs $8 online or $9 by mail, for US addresses only.
From outside the US
Most of these routes are US-only in practice: OptOutPrescreen blocks non-US internet connections and DMAchoice takes US addresses only. Acxiom and LiveRamp have separate international routes linked from the pages above. UK readers should see Your data in the UK.
