Stop unwanted sales calls

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is the UK's official "do not call" register, for landlines and mobiles. It's free, and organisations making live sales and marketing calls must check it.
How to register
- Online: on the TPS website.
- By text: text "TPS" and your email address to 85095 from the mobile you want to register.
- Cost: free. TPS registration doesn't need renewing.
What it covers
- Unsolicited live sales and marketing calls to the numbers you register.
- Organisations must screen their call lists against TPS at least once every 28 days, so allow a few weeks for calls to stop.
- TPS runs a free complaint service and reports complaints to the regulator, which enforces the rules and can fine companies.
Companies you've already agreed can call you
The regulator says that if you agreed a company could call you before you registered with TPS, it may still call. Tell that company directly that you don't want marketing calls; you can also object to direct marketing, which it can't refuse.
How TPS applies to recorded or automated calls, calls from overseas, and market research calls isn't covered on the pages checked, so it isn't described here. Businesses can register with the separate Corporate TPS.
