Meta (Facebook, Instagram): ad settings

Last checked: 28 Sep 2026

Meta's ad settings are in Ad preferences, in Accounts Centre. On the free version, Meta says there's no way to hide all ads, and changing preferences doesn't change how many you see. In the UK and Europe there's also a paid option without ads.

Ad preferences (everywhere)

Ad topicsAds continue, less personalised
Settings and privacy → Settings → Accounts Centre → Ad preferences → Manage ads → Ad topics → See less

See fewer ads about a topic, and advertisers can't target you on that interest. Applies across accounts in the same Accounts Centre.

Meta says you may still see some ads related to the topics you choose.

Activity information from ad partnersAds continue, less personalised
Accounts Centre → Ad preferences → Manage info → Activity information from ad partners → Review setting

Stop ads based on activity data that partners share with Meta (from their websites, apps and some offline activity).

Ads can still use your activity on Meta's own apps and lists that advertisers upload. Some people now see "Meta Account settings" instead of Accounts Centre; the web version is at accountscenter.facebook.com.

UK and Europe

Subscription for no ads (UK and Europe)Removes ads (paid)
Accounts Centre → Ad preferences → Manage ads → Choose to use our Products with or without ads

Use Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp without ads, and Meta says your information isn't used for ads. In the UK it's £2.99 a month on the web or £3.99 a month in the iOS or Android app, plus £2 (web) or £3 (app) for each extra account.

Over-18s only. Branded content and posts from businesses you follow still appear. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal; app-store subscriptions must be cancelled through the same Apple or Google account.

"Less personalised ads" is a separate free option, but Meta says it's only available in the European region, which on Meta's list doesn't include the UK. In the UK, the free version uses personalised ads based on your consent, which Meta says you can withdraw.

In the US there's no subscription for no ads; the Ad preferences settings above are the controls.
